Indian Red Cross Society, WB State Branch conducts First-Aid Training programmes for students (for both the college and school students), individuals, organizations, Corporate Houses etc. In this training the trainees are imparted training on handling of different types of emergency situation or any immediate medical help. They are made fully equipped to make use of the "Golden Hour", prior to hospitalization of any patient after the occurrence of medical emergency.
Some of the main topics of this training are :

8. Respiration / Asphyxia / Heart Attack /Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
14. Dressing & Bandage
15. Other related topics.
Theoretical as well as practical training are included in this training course.
There are three types of First Aid training organized by Indian Red Cross Society. The detailed particulars for these trainings are:

All of these categories of training are imparted by the Indian Red Cross Society, National Headquarter registered Faculty Members (or by a registered doctor or by a registered nurse) and examination of the trainees is conducted by a registered medical practitioner. The certificate for successful completion of the different types of First Aid training courses are issued by the Indian Red Cross Society, National Headquarters, New Delhi.

West Bengal is a multi hazard prone state as far as both natural and man-made hazards are concerned. In view of this training is being offered to interested candidates who wish to work in Disaster Situation in the Districts of West Bengal.
Disaster: A disaster is sudden event, which causes significant disruption in socio-economic life of the affected communities leading to loss of life, property and creating wide-spread damage including sudden and immense miseries to humanity. Disaster occurs due to disruption of environment, which is caused by the extraordinary natural phenomenon or human induced hazards, resulting in immense human sufferings and hardship. To reduce the disaster probability, one has to decrease the vulnerability.
Hazard: An event which causes a situation which can be dangerous to people or property if occurred in populated area. e.g. Cyclone, Earthquake, Flood, Drought etc.
Vulnerability: Conditions in the community, which leave it open to suffer from the effects of a disaster.
e.g. Houses on the seacoast in the cyclone prone area, Village situated in the flood prone area, etc.
Certificate of Participation will be issued to individual trainees on successful completion of his/her training from IRCS, West Bengal State Branch, Kolkata

Vocational Training for women empowerment and self help is conducted by the IRCS,State Branch and also some district branches, mainly in the craft of sewing / tailoring. State Branch is contemplating to include training in other crafts also.
