Disaster Management Programme is being run since 2004 with support from IRCS, National Headquarters & IFRC . Under this programme we conduct capacity building/ training programme for our Red Cross Volunteers in the districts to build the capacity of the districts and State Branches. At present we are implementing First Medical Responder (FMR) programme, where volunteers are trained as First Medical Responders who will respond at the time of disaster. At present we have 171 First Medical Responders (FMRs) in the districts of South 24 Parganas, Purba Medinipur, North 24 Parganas, Howrah & Hooghly. Throughout the year during peace time these FMRs/RCVs conduct awareness programme on WASH (Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Promotion) in the schools/ communities and they also conduct Mock Drill on early warning, Search and Rescue and First Aid.
Our State Branch in coordination with each District Branch and FMRs & volunteers undertake Response & Relief work in the wake of Disasters like flood, cyclone, landslide etc. We provide relief materials to the affected families like tarpaulin, blanket, kitchen set, plastic bucket, mosquito net, towel, saree, dhoti, bed sheet, children garments etc.
